Services for Pets as You Plan Your Move
  By Relocation.com Staff

Congratulations, you’re moving into a new house or apartment. As the excitement subsides, it’s time to get into practical mode and start planning. Finding movers, locating boxes and packing are just some of the tasks you need to sort out before moving day. This time, however, will be hard on your pets – specifically cats and dogs – who will want to resume their normal activities and not be stuck inside while you pack. Services like pet sitters, doggie daycare and pet boarders are excellent options so that your pets can enjoy their day while you attend to the upcoming move.

1. Pet Sitters: Through these services a licensed and insured pet sitters comes to your home to feed your pet, administer medication or take them out for a walk. This can be a great service to cover a day or two for those unavoidable moving day errands like shopping for moving supplies, dropping off old clothes to the Salvation Army or interviewing moving companies.

2. Doggie Daycare: You may find that you only need a chunk of time to deal with moving. In that case doggie daycare may be perfect for you and your dog. Much like a daycare for a child, you would drop off your dog in the morning and pick them up later in the day or for a designated amount of time. Throughout the course of the day, your dog will be feed, taken on walks (inside and outside) as well as a great place to the play with other dogs. Some facilities even have a pet taxi service that can bring your dog to your home at the end of the day.

3. Dog Walkers: Your pet is not going to wait for you to finish packing up all of your worldly possessions before they are taken outside for their daily walk. If you are finding that to be a challenge; consider hiring a professional dog walker for an hour or more. In general, professional dog walkers not only walk your dog, but they can take them to the park, feed them or give them their medication. They also generally walk more than one dog, so your dog will be sure to have a companion nearby. Those couple of extra hours will really help you get more boxes packed as your moving day inches closer.

4. Pet Boarding: For those of you that have to go back and forth to your new place and don’t want to travel with your pets, you should consider pet boarding. Through this service, you leave your pet at a pet boarding company for a designated amount of time. Other pets stay there as well and the providers feed, bath and take your dog or cat on walks. Some modern facilities even have video monitoring where you can check-in on your pet and say ‘hi.’
